Lenovo has published a new StoryHub feature on VAR Lab’s recent digital preservation work with the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia.
The article, “How Technology Is Preserving the Liberty Bell for America’s 250th Anniversary,” highlights how VAR Lab: The Emerging Technologies Hub at Penn State Behrend worked in partnership with the National Park Service to help create one of the most comprehensive digital records of the Liberty Bell to date. Using laser-line scanning, structured-light scanning, LiDAR, and photogrammetry, the team captured high-fidelity digital data of the historic artifact without touching, moving, or altering it.
The story also discusses how Lenovo Legion technology supported onsite processing, scan validation, visualization, quality assurance, and media workflows during the project’s limited access window at the Liberty Bell Center.
The resulting digital model will support future research, education, public access, and cultural preservation efforts as the United States approaches its 250th anniversary.
