Projector Games: Interactive Projection Systems

The VAR Lab developed a set of projection-based systems for interactive displays, immersive environments, and responsive floor experiences.

The first system uses a projector aimed at four whiteboards, with content projection-mapped to a defined outline. This setup can be used to display information, create “virtual window” scenes, or align digital imagery to a physical board layout for immersive presentation.

The second system uses a ceiling-mounted Kinect V2 and projector aimed at the floor. The Kinect captures depth maps, which are aligned to the projected image through homography calibration. This allows the system to accurately connect physical movement on the floor with the projected visuals.

With this calibration in place, the projector can overlay interactive games and responsive visuals directly onto the ground. The result is a spatial interaction system where projected content reacts in real time to movement within the space, supporting playful, immersive, and accessible forms of interaction.
