Photogrammetry Testing at the VAR Lab

The VAR Lab has been testing new photogrammetry workflows to improve how physical objects can be captured and turned into detailed 3D models. This work includes experimenting with cross-polarization, an automatic turntable, and image processing in Agisoft Metashape.

Cross-polarization helps reduce glare and reflections during photography, which can lead to cleaner images, better surface detail, and more accurate 3D reconstruction. By using an automatic turntable, objects can be photographed from consistent angles without needing to manually reposition them for each image. These images are then processed in Agisoft Metashape to generate 3D models that can be used for research, digital preservation, visualization, and interactive media projects.

This project helps the VAR Lab continue refining affordable and repeatable workflows for creating high-quality 3D assets from real-world objects.
