The Aerial Operations Studio at VAR Studios is thrilled to announce a momentous achievement—Garrett Stroupe, a DIGIT student at Penn State Behrend and a new member of VAR Studios, has successfully passed the FAA Part 107 Unmanned Aerial Systems Exam. This accomplishment marks Garrett as our first FAA 107 certified unmanned aerial systems operator, a crucial milestone for our growing Aerial Operations Team.

After dedicated preparation spanning nearly a month, Garrett sat for the FAA Part 107 exam at the certified test location in Erie, PA. His Part 107 certification, along with future certifications of other remote pilots on our team, enables them to operate drones for purposes beyond recreation. This opens up opportunities for our team to leverage drone technology in diverse research and commercial contexts, while adhering to all necessary regulatory standards.

In addition to being a Remote Pilot on the Team, Garrett has also been named as our first Head of the Aerial Operations Studio. In this role, he will ensure that our internal processes meet the standards laid out by the FAA and Penn State regulations. Additionally, he will mentor other remote pilots and build an effective and interdisciplinary team.

Garrett’s success thus far attests to his dedication and skill, qualities that make him a valuable leader within the Aerial Operations Studio.
