FARO Creaform recently highlighted VAR Lab’s work to help bring the Liberty Bell into a high-resolution digital format for America250 and Independence Day.

As part of the project, VAR Lab: The Emerging Technologies Hub at Penn State Behrend used FARO measurement-grade scanning technology to help document the Liberty Bell’s surface details, complex contours, inscriptions, worn metal, and iconic crack. The scan was captured using the Quantum X FaroArm® Series with FAROBlu® xS and FAROBlu® xR Laser Line Probes, creating precise dimensional data that can support future study, education, preservation, and public access.

This work helps preserve the Liberty Bell beyond the physical exhibit while keeping the original artifact at the center of the experience. By combining advanced 3D scanning with cultural heritage documentation, VAR Lab is contributing to new ways historic objects can be explored, studied, and shared.
