Project Description

Art Installation: Interactive Projection for Gallery Spaces

The VAR Lab developed an interactive projector installation for the Spring 2026 Yahn Art Show, using a depth camera and Processing 4 to connect physical artwork with responsive digital information.

The installation used custom software to detect when a viewer crossed in front of an artwork. When activated, the system projected a visual frame around the piece and displayed related details such as the artist name, artwork title, and date of creation.

This project combined creative coding, projection design, camera-based interaction, and exhibition display into one responsive gallery experience. Rather than replacing the physical artwork, the projected layer added contextual information only when someone engaged with the piece.

The project highlights how spatial interaction and projection can make public-facing creative spaces more active, informative, and immersive.
