Get ready to witness history! VAR Lab Director Christopher Shelton and Immersive Administrator Lauren Cass are preparing to take on an ambitious challenge: breaking the current world record of 50 hours for the longest continuous time spent watching content in a virtual reality (VR) headset. The duo aims to set a new record of 55 continuous hours.

During this intense marathon, Shelton and Cass will remain immersed in VR headsets, continuously viewing movies, without interruption.

This exciting event will take place from April 5th to April 7th, 2025, right here at VAR Lab on the Penn State Behrend campus. Adding to the excitement, the record attempt will coincide with Behrend’s Open House, providing a unique opportunity for the public to explore the lab, meet the team, and be part of an unforgettable moment.

The VAR Lab doors will remain open from 9am-5pm on April 5th and 6th for visitors eager to witness the challenge live. Can’t make it in person? No worries—the entire event will also be livestreamed.

Don’t miss out! Stop by the VAR Lab, cheer on Chris and Lauren, and experience firsthand what cutting-edge immersive student research looks like in action.
