people using a VR headset

VAR Labs has been up for almost a year now, and although there have been many visitors to the lab including department chairs and other important members of the school, nothing has been bigger than STEAM fair. On February 10th, 1,500+ people attended Penn State Behrend’s sixth-annual Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) fair. This outreach event targets K-12 students but focuses on younger students. Its aim is to help its attendees to find interest in college based carriers by attending booths hoasted by departments of the school, businesses, and organizations in the surrounding areas. These booths provide fun activities with a target audience of younger attendees. VAR labs set up one mega booth the size of two booths and were able to run 4 VR sets for attendees to experience VR. Many of the students that we were able to demo VR for had not previously been able to try it. As VAR lab progresses one of our goals will be to demonstrate the usefulness of VR in the classroom.
